Not yet traditionally published? Over 50? SCBWI members can apply next year for a Work-in-Progress grant and have your manuscript considered for the Karen and Philip Cushman Late Bloomer Award, $500 and a scholarship to one SCBWI conference. This award was established to encourage and celebrate late bloomers like me, who didn’t start to write until age fifty. But then I bloomed, and I’d love to see others do so as well.

I love this idea–thank you, Karen and Philip. Sometimes late bloomers have a lot to contend with when trying to expand in a direction that’s new and perhaps a little scary. Finding support like this really helps to make that creative leap.
Karen,
Thank you so much for this awesome award! It’s so inspiring to those of us over 50. I’ve been a late bloomer my whole life so I don’t let my age get in the way. I hope others won’t give up on their dream just because they’re “old” (ha ha). I’ve applied for the SCBWI WIP grant but I’m already published so I’m not eligible for your award. Thank you so much anyway!
